The Aristocrat & the Able Seaman: Reviews

Angela Young has done historians a great service by amassing so much fascinating information about her relative the Countess of Rothes’ Titanic experiences and sharing that information with researchers everywhere. We can only hope that family members of other Titanic passengers and crewmen will follow her lead and will share similar information about their own relatives’ Titanic experiences in order to keep those family memories from disappearing forever into the bottomless well of time.

George Behe, Titanic historian and past vice president of the Titanic Historical Society
author of, among others, On Board RMS Titanic, Memories of the Maiden Voyage

An enthralling account of the sinking of the Titanic, told through the courage of Noël Leslie, Countess of Rothes, who guided Lifeboat Number 8 to safety [under the guidance of] the Able Seaman, Thomas Jones. The author, Angela Young, is Noël’s great-granddaughter and had unique access to the Countess’s private papers with many new insights into the sinking and the aftermath.
