Give Care-Experienced Children Joy, through Reading this Christmas

The Reader – the brilliant charity that organises reading aloud with thousands of adults and children in places like cafès, libraries, hospitals and prisons – is running an appeal this Christmas for donations for Reading Heroes. Donations will:

Recruit, train and support volunteers [Reading Heroes] to give the space, time and attention children need to develop confidence and build self-esteem through the joy of reading aloud, together.

These children live in foster, residential or kinship care. In the video below you can hear how some of them feel about the Reading Heroes programme. I think you’ll be as moved as I am by the wonders reading has done and is doing for them.

You can donate here. I just have.

Discovering the joy, the magic, of stories by reading with or listening with a supportive and sympathetic Reading Hero must, surely, be one of the greatest gifts we can give a child.
